RAD Kids
What do the insects have to say when they don’t scare you away?
🦗🦟🕸️🐝🪰🪲🪳🐜🐞🕷️🦋
This year’s RADKids workshop encourages every curious soul to turn inwards and explore the answer to this question. Through their vibrant colors, most exotic insects convey the message that they’re tougher than their size suggests, and that their predators should stay away. But what if they were to share other messages? What if they were to communicate “I miss you” through, say, pastel hues? Or mere anger through fire tones?🖍️
In the two-hour workshop, the children can choose between three art mediums (lino/painting/collage) to illustrate one amazing insect. By mastering color and shape, they will be able to send a message to their loved ones (or themselves, why not), spoken in the language of some of the most underrated animals out there.
The workshop runs in three 2-hour sessions each day:
12:00 – 14:00
14:20 – 16:20
16:40 – 18:40
Each session can accommodate up to 9 participants, with simultaneous tracks in lino, painting, and collage. RSVP is required to secure a spot.
Participation fee: 50 RON per child / per session.
RAD KIDS FACILITATORS
Sânziana Șendroiu is an anthropology student in Bucharest, gradually developing her bachelor’s thesis, which brings together themes that have most captivated her during her studies: antispeciesism, anti-authoritarianism, and a broader discussion on violence. At the same time, she is interested in exploring how education can be conducted more sustainably, though she still feels too inexperienced to respond definitively, despite having tested her ideas through a year-long experiment as a primary school teacher. Summers often find her driven by the metaphorical “ants on her soles,” urging her to explore further. You might find her diving into lakes, caring for animals at the vegan sanctuary Nima, immersed in old journals, or with her nose buried in a cat’s fur.
Vlad Cocieru is a first-year student in the Film Directing Master’s program at UNATC. He has directed several student short films, including an adaptation of the poem Riga Crypto și Lapona Enigel, which was selected for competition at the FEST New Films New Directors, Alter-Native Film Festival, SeaWave Film Fest, and CinemaIubit. Vlad has also worked as an illustrator for publications such as Derive and Film Menu, as well as for the youth festival Super. He was mentioned in Films in Frame magazine in an article on emerging young directors.
Ada Stan is an emerging anthropologist with a desire to translate learned theory into visual language. She creates drawings and collages of dancing characters, attempting to capture the turbulence of the world. Currently, she is studying transdisciplinary perspectives on socio-ecological issues while working in a vintage shop.
