Anca Poterașu
Anca Poterașu is the founder and director of Anca Poterașu Gallery, one of the most active contemporary art spaces in Romania. Born in Maramureș, she established the gallery in 2011 in Bucharest’s Plantelor neighborhood, within a late 19th-century heritage house. The dialogue between contemporary art and historic architecture has since become a defining element of the gallery’s identity. In 2019, the gallery relocated to 26 Popa Soare Street, where it continues its פעילות today.
The gallery’s program brings together established artists and emerging voices working across painting, drawing, photography, installation, and video. It maintains a strong presence of female artists and a consistent commitment to actively supporting the development of the artists in its portfolio. The gallery regularly participates in international art fairs and collaborates with cultural institutions across Europe, positioning Romanian artists within a relevant international context.
In 2012, Anca Poterașu founded ARAC—the Romanian Association of Contemporary Art—which she leads as president. Through ARAC, she initiated Plantelor 58, one of the first international artist residency programs in Romania, and later established a residency in Săcel, Maramureș, creating a connection between contemporary artistic practices and the local heritage of her native region.
