Jean-Baptiste Durand
Jean-Baptiste Durand is a designer based in Paris.
In his personal work, he explores the interplay between architecture and scenography, furniture, and non-utilitarian objects. Inspired by various technical languages, encompassing both ancestral and technological craftsmanship, he engages in a form of sampling, creating compositions evoking these realms. His practice aims to break free from conventional labels of designer or artist, instead allowing himself to be guided by the inspiration of the moment, embracing the freedom of spontaneous creativity. His love for this diversity is evident in his determination not to be confined to a particular style or typology of objects but rather to explore the infinite possibilities of creative expression.
After an initial solo journey, receiving various awards, including the Rado Star Prize, followed by a break in his practice, he reappears during Design Week 2023, marked by a serenity paradoxically fueled by a desire to remain naive and innocent.
