Laurian Ghinițoiu
Laurian Ghinițoiu (b. 1985) is an observer whose work investigates how the built environment is experienced, recorded, and transformed over time. Trained as an architect, he completed his studies in Romania and Germany, earning an MA from Dessau International Architecture. Through photography, film, objects, and installations, he works across space and time, examining the connections between architecture and its broader socio-economic contexts.
What began as a spontaneous practice of observation has evolved into an ongoing investigation spanning different territories. His work engages conditions of belonging, borders, and spatial hierarchies, often unfolding at the threshold between opposing states. Years of belonging nowhere and everywhere have shaped his perspective, with intuitive encounters developing into books, exhibitions, and collaborations.
Ghinițoiu’s work has been presented at exhibitions and film festivals, including the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, both as part of the National Pavilion of Saudi Arabia and in Ancient Future: Bridging Bhutan’s Tradition and Innovation. The film “v e i n s” part of the material trilogy with Arata Mori, was premiered in New York (2023). “Cities that transform” produced with viceversa was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award (2023).
